Rodents, reptiles, and birds, oh my!

EVH is the only 24-hr emergency clinic in the Ann Arbor area that will see and treat exotic species.  We see a variety of exotic pets including rodents (rabbits, rats, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas, mice, guinea pigs), birds (parrots, ducks, chickens, etc), reptiles (turtles, snakes, lizards), etc.  As a policy we will not see venomous snakes and non-human primates. 

Common Conditions we treat in exotic species:

• GI stasis

• Respiratory infections

• Vestibular syndrome

• Infectious diseases

• Trauma patients or wound repair

At EVH we understand that exotic species can stress easily and that this stress can be detrimental to their health. We have implemented different techniques to ensure that their stay with us is as stress-free as possible – including a designated ward just for exotic patients. This glass-enclosed area allows us to see them without them hearing the hustle and bustle of an ER clinic.
